Installation and compliance

Landlords have the flexibility to appoint their own electricians for the installation of Metro Prepaid electric sub-meters. They can install as many meters per property as the main supply permits, ensuring accurate measurement of electricity usage.

Electricians must adhere to IET wiring codes during installation, ensuring safety and compliance with regulations. The meters are quick to install and easy to operate, minimising disruption for both landlords and tenants [how to].

Using a sub meter

Tenants can easily top up their prepayment meters by purchasing Metro Codes [link]. These Metro Codes represent electricity payments and are punched into the meter by the tenant upon returning home. The process is convenient and flexible, allowing tenants to manage their electricity usage according to their needs.

Funds transfer and payment

Metro Prepaid accumulates electricity payments (Metro Codes) from tenants throughout the month. In the first week of the following month, these funds are transferred to the registered landlord. Landlords can then utilise these payments to service the cost of the main supply from their energy provider, ensuring a seamless financial process.

What do Metro make out of it?

Metro charges a flat 10% on all top ups and then the 90% balance is returned back to the landlord.

Registration process

Registering a Metro Prepaid electric sub meter is a straightforward process. Landlords can complete the basic registration online or via the 24/7 Help Desk [register]. During registration, consultants verify details and request the landlord's bank information for monthly payments. A Whatsapp feature has also rolled out.

How to buy metro codes

Tenants have various options to purchase Power Codes for topping up their prepayment sub meters. These codes are available in high street stores via PayPoint, as well as online or through bank payments, cash deposits, or credit card transactions via Paypal. The flexibility of purchase options ensures accessibility for all tenants. A power code is a 20-digit encrypted number that is punched into the meter by the tenant.
